Gomez Cancels Remaining North America Dates

11:01 AM Friday 7/15/11 |   |

An ailin’ singer knocks Gomez off the road, forcing the British band to cancel its eight remaining North American dates.

The band posted an announcement on its website saying singer Ben Ottewell has been “battling vocal loss” this week resulting in a visit from a specialist who told him he needed up to two weeks of “absolute vocal rest” to recover.

For those of you tracking the summer tours at home, you’ll need to remove tonight’s gig in Philadelphia along with Gomez play dates in Ottawa (July 16), Toronto (July 17), Washington, D.C. (July 18), Raleigh, N.C. (July 20), Charlotte, N.C. (July 21), Atlanta (July 22) and Glen Allen, Va. (July 23).

Athough Gomez has been temporarily silenced, the band’s Ian Ball soldiers on and will perform solo sets supporting tour mates John Butler Trio in Raleigh, Charlotte, Atlanta and Glen Allen.

According to GomezTheBand.com, ticketholders should check with the venues for refund information. The band’s next scheduled gig is in Woodford, Australia, July 30 as part of the Splendour In The Grass music festival.
