Music Writer Wendy Kale Dies

07:01 AM Friday 8/5/11 |   |

Wendy Kale, 58, longtime music writer at Boulder’s “Colorado Daily,” was found dead in her Boulder apartment Aug. 2.

An autopsy has not determined cause or manner of death but it is not considered suspicious.

Kale was a fixture on the Colorado music scene, and Daily writer and “cubicle mate” Christy Fantz noted that Kale “knew everybody” in the concert business and it was “overwhelming” to accompany her to a concert.

Kale began by promoting college concerts, including Eagles and The Rolling Stones, at the University of Colorado, having been hired in 1976 by then-Program Council Director Phil Lobel, now known for his career as a publicist and who noted to Pollstar his sadness at Kale’s passing.

I had the honor and privilege to work with Wendy promoting college concerts at Program Council in the late 1970s.  Her enthusiasm, passion and love for music was contagious. SHe surely will be missed. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, August 11th at Unity Church of Boulder, 2855 Folsom St. The Colorado Daily also is organizing a musical memorial at  the Fox Theatre on University Hill and is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 24 and will include musical performances and tributes.

Wendy Kale was a hero to the up and coming bands in the music arena. She knew where the music scene was going before it appeared . When championed the new bands and was on the scene every night rain or shine doing her job reporting what was going on  to the world. Sean Lennon liked Wendy's review so much he added to his website. Wendy worked beyond what they paid her at the Colorado Daily she worked over time because it was her inner job to do things right. Her heart and soul went into every article she ever wrote. .. They don't make them that any more . Wendy will be missed by all. She was a trooper and the music world was blessed with the likes of her contribution. Thank you Wendy....
