Scheduled for Sept. 21 at The O2 – London, Yusuf joins a lineup that includes performers and speakers. Eliza Doolittle, Youssou N’Dour, Afroreggae, Flawless and the English National Ballet are among the performers. Speakers include Denise Lewis, Jude Law, Monique Coleman and Peace One Day founder and filmmaker Jeremy Gilley.
This won’t be the first time Yusuf has appeared at Peace One Day. The singer/songwriter performed for the event in 2007.
The Sept. 21 event also launches the 365-day countdown to a Global Truce on Peace Day 2012.
“Peace One Day is calling for and working towards a Global Truce on Peace Day 2012,” Gilley said in a statement. “We have a clear strategy and we hope this will be the largest reduction in global violence in recorded history, both domestically and internationally. This day is as much about non-violence in our schools, our homes, workplace and local communities as it is about cease-fire on the international stage.”
Other artists who have supported Peace One Day include Peter Gabriel, Lenny Kravitz, Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams and Patti Smith. Visit PeaceOneDay.org for more information.
