Join The Queen Extravaganza

Queen drummer Roger Taylor is looking for a few champion musicians to take part in a tour being billed as the Queen Extravaganza.

The online audition process began this week at www.QueenExtravaganza.com seeking American vocalists, guitarists, drummers, bassists and keyboard players. Taylor is taking on a hands-on role as the band’s producer and music director.

“The Queen Extravaganza will not be a traditional tribute show,” Taylor said in a statement. “It’s a brand-new show specially designed to enable fans to celebrate the music of Queen in a heart-stopping event.

“It’s going to be spectacular,” he added. “It’s going to be very visual, there are going to be some shocks and some tremendous surprises. It will be a rock celebration in the royal tradition.”

Don’t worry if you don’t look exactly like Brian May or Freddie Mercury. The Queen Extravaganza’s website points out that the group “is not looking for Queen band member look-a-likes.”

To enter the contest fans must download an available backing track, record an audition video and then upload it to the Queen Extravaganza website. The open audition process is ongoing now through Nov. 7.

A panel of Queen judges will send their favorite 50 audition videos to the next round where fans can take part in public voting between Nov. 14-30. The 10 musicians that receive the most votes will move onto the final round where they will perform live in front of a judging panel featuring Taylor. The final round will take place sometime in December.

At least one person will win a spot in Queen Extravaganza, which will include a five-piece band and three vocalists selected by Taylor.

The tour is being scheduled for 2012 in cities across the U.S.

I thought the name in the title referred to Delta's next Grappling Tournament!
