Coldplay Unstaged In Spain

05:01 PM Thursday 10/6/11 |   |

Coldplay is taking fans to Spain at the end of the month for the first international edition of the “American Express Unstaged” livestream music series.

Previous Unstaged concerts, which combine popular acts with renowned film directors directing the footage, featured performances from Arcade Fire, John Legend & The Roots, Sugarland, Duran Duran, and My Morning Jacket.

This time around Coldplay is teaming up with Dutch filmmaker, photographer and music video director Anton Corbijn. He’s worked on music videos for a long list of acts including Johnny Cash, Nirvana, U2, Depeche Mode, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica. He directed the 2007 Ian Curtis biopic “Control” and the 2010 thriller “The American.”

The show, which marks the first Unstaged concert outside of the U.S., is set for Oct. 26 in Madrid at Plaza De Toros De Las Ventas.

“Anton Corbijn has been a big hero to us for a long long time so we’re thrilled to be beaming this concert out to the world through his cinematic lens,” Chris Martin said in a statement. “We can’t wait to share this experience with him and with all of our fans watching ‘American Express Unstaged’ around the world. It’s going to be special.”

The concert will be streamed on Coldplay’s VEVO channel on Oct. 26 at 4 p.m. ET. It will also be available via VEVO and YouTube apps for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Android. Fans that just can’t get enough Coldplay can check out a special looped rebroadcast of the performance immediately following the livestream. After that the concert can be seen via on-demand during a limited 48-hour window.

If you’d rather see the show in person, a pre-sale for American Express cardmembers begins Friday. Tickets go on sale to the general public Oct. 10.

Coldplay performs Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa, at FNB Stadium. On Nov. 17 the band takes part in “BBC Children In Need” in Manchester, United Kingdom, followed by a run of European dates Dec. 3-21. The group fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, is set for release Oct. 24.
