TM Settles TicketsNow Complaint

04:01 PM Wednesday 10/19/11 |   |

Ticketmaster has reportedly settled with fans over the TicketsNow debacle of 2009.

The class action lawsuit, stemming from the concerns over a Bruce Springsteen tour launch, was settled for $16.5 million, which means participants in the suit get $10 each or an 18.5 percent discount on a future ticket purchase (as long as it doesn't knock more than $18.50 off the ticket price).

TM also has to display a web page whenever visitors to Ticketmaster.com go to TicketsNow.com, making it clear they are about to leave the website for one that sells secondary tickets.

Fans complained Ticketmaster automatically redirected them to TicketsNow.com when Springsteen tickets were sold out, and they were apparently unaware that they were buying tickets at a resale price. The practice was cited for a wide range of events beyond Springsteen, including a Miley Cyrus onsale and Detroit Pistons NBA matches.

The $16.5 million figure includes $2.5 million to attorneys and $5,000 each to the three lead plaintiffs, according to ContentNext Media. A judge still needs to sign off on the deal.
