John Mayer Recuperating From Throat Surgery

10:01 AM Monday 10/24/11 |   |

The singer/guitarist says he’s going to do some traveling while waiting for his throat to heal.

In a posting on his Tumblr account dated Oct. 20, John Mayer said he underwent surgery for a non-cancerous growth called a granuloma that was located just above his vocal cord.

Mayer noted that he gave his voice a rest for two weeks to see if his condition would improve, but “there was no change for the better.”

“I never thought I’d be wishing I could do what I love again; I stay in at night, picking guitar parts off of records and dreaming of playing on the big stage,” Mayer wrote. “The only difference between now and when I was 18 is that now I have this beautiful, meaningful record waiting for me when I can sing it.

“Until then, I’m taking off. Going to travel the country, look and listen.

Mayer announced his condition last month, calling it a “temporary setback,” and canceled an appearance with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles and a performance at the mammoth iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas.
