Mat Kearney Performs Above The Clouds

04:31 PM Friday 10/28/11 |   |

Mat Kearney recently partnered with Southwest Airlines to surprise some lucky passengers with something a little more memorable than a bag of peanuts.

The singer/songwriter and one of his bandmates performed Oct. 21 at 35,000 feet in the air for passengers on a flight from Nashville to Chicago. The musicians played the title track from Kearney’s second studio album, 2006’s Nothing Less To Lose.

“I’ve always actually wanted to pick up my guitar in the middle of a flight and just walk down the aisle and play songs, but this is the first time I’ve ever actually gotten the chance to do it,” Kearney said in a video documenting the surprise performance.

According to a post on Southwest’s blog, the airline is teaming up with more artists for the “ultimate in-air entertainment experience.”

Upcoming Kearney dates back on the ground include Friday’s show at New York City’s Webster Hall, Saturday at Philadelphia’s Theatre Of The Living Arts; and Sunday in Clifton Park, N.Y., at Northern Lights.

This must be the other extreme of their recent high-profile random expulsions of Billie Joel Armstrong from Green Day and the members of Uh Huh Her from Southwest flights. And Silent Bob.
