Mostly taking place at the Boulder Outlook Hotel & Suites Nov. 25-27 in Boulder, Colo., the Blues Trance Jam features plenty of opportunities for fans of all levels and ages to interact with pros such as guitarist “Steady Rollin’” Bob Margolin, Tony Trischka, multi-instrumentalist Don Vappie, Meters bassist George Porter Jr., Standing Bear and Cassie Taylor.
The fun begins Friday evening with a pre-Trance Jam gig hosted at the Outlook by Taylor, Margolin and Vappie. On Saturday and Sunday artists will conduct workshops for classes ranging in size from 20 to 60 students. The weekend’s big show – the Saturday Night Trance-Blues Jam – takes over the Boulder Theatre beginning at 6 p.m.
“You don’t have to be a musician to get involved with the Trance Blues Jam Festival,” Boulder resident Taylor said in a statement. “We would like to see the festival evolve to include artists hosting sessions slanted towards many different styles of music. The goal is to fill the hills with the sound of music of all genres: classical, blues, jazz, pop, world, rap, spoken word; [and] instruments of every type: horns, strings, percussion and even street instruments like cans and buckets.”
