Afghan Whigs Will Be Your Mirror

05:01 PM Wednesday 12/7/11 |   |

Guided By Voices have canceled the band’s headline appearance at All Tomorrow’s Parties’ I’ll Be Your Mirror event in London. Cincinnati-based rock band The Afghan Whigs are reuniting and taking GBV’s place.

An announcement on ATP’s website notes that The Afghan Whigs’ May 27 set at I’ll Be Your Mirror will mark the band’s first show in 13 years. The group officially split in 2001 after releasing its sixth album in 1998.

I’ll Be Your Mirror, which is curated by ATP and Mogwai, takes place May 25-27 at London’s Alexandra Palace. Along with Mogwai, the lineup also features Slayer (performing the band’s 1986 album Reign In Blood), Dirty Three, Melvins, Sleep, Mudhoney, Codeine and Yuck. Tickets are on sale now.

The Afghan Whigs will also headline I’ll Be Your Mirror in Asbury Park, N.J. The festival is scheduled Sept. 21-23 at various venues in Asbury Park with The Afghan Whigs performing Sept. 22.

The rest of the lineup will be announced in early January. Tickets and accommodations will also go on sale at that time.

Guided By Voices have called off all 2012 live appearances. The following statement about the cancellation was posted on ATP’s website:

“We’re very sad to announce the disappointing news that Guided By Voices will no longer play on the Sunday of the event due to personal reasons and have cancelled all 2012 live appearances. The band apologizes for any inconvenience and disappointment, and thanks the fans for their longterm support. Those of you who bought Sunday Day tickets for this event are invited to claim a refund if you no longer want to attend. Please contact your ticket agency before the end of January to do so. Once again we’re very sorry to be the bearers of this bad news and sorry to those of you who it has inconvenienced.”
