Odds & Ends: Randy Travis, Toby Keith, Das Racist and Super Bowl Ratings

02:01 PM Monday 2/6/12 | |

Randy Travis was arrested in Texas; Toby Keith has a very important gig next month; Das Racist signs on to Tibet House benefit and yesterday’s Super Bowl ratings almost topped the championship game’s all-time record.

Travis In The Clink

Perhaps he had too much Super Bowl party in him or perhaps he just couldn’t figure out where to go next. Either way, country star Randy Travis was arrested this morning for public intoxication.

At approximately 1:30 this morning, Sanger, Texas, police officers found Travis sitting in a vehicle in front of a Baptist church., according to Fox 8 News. Police said Travis was intoxicated and a search of the singer’s vehicle turned up an open bottle of wine.

Taken to the Denton County Jail, Travis was booked on a public intoxication charge and was released later this morning.

Toby Keith Brings His Own Bottle

Toby Keith has a very important gig coming up, but it’s not about his hit songs or his fantastic live shows.

Instead, Keith will be attending the 27th annual Nightclub & Bar Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas March 12-13.

Keith, who recently launched his own brand of tequila, “Wild Shot Mezcal,” will be rubbing shoulders with the folks he hopes will help sell his product.

Attended by more than 31,000 pros in the biz, the Nightclub & Bar Convention should provide plenty of opportunities for Keith who, will participate in the noon ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as a press conference with Nightclub & Bar Media Group president Jon Taffer.

“I am looking forward to the Nightclub and Bar Show,” Keith said. “We are going to have fun, drink some Wild Shot Mezcal and proceed to party.”

Das Racist Added To Tibet House Benefit

The annual Tibet House Benefit Concert keeps on growing. Scheduled for Feb. 13 at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, the lineup includes the event’s artist director Philip Glass along with Lou Reed, James Blake, Antony, Laurie Anderson, Stephin Merritt, Rahzel and Dechen Shak-Dagsay.

Now you can add Brooklyn hip-hop group Das Racist to the show that boasts of having Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard as this year’s honorary chairpersons.

Tickets ranging from $33 to $95 are still available. Visit Tibethouse.us for more information.

Super Bowl’s Super Ratings

Although Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVI was a TV ratings powerhouse, the audience for the championship game pitting the New York Giants against the New England Patriots didn’t quite make the record books.

Reporting on its overnight numbers, Nielsen Media Research says the game received a 47.8 rating and a 71 share. While those are very impressive numbers, they don’t quite beat last year’s Green Bay/Pittsburgh game on Fox that scored a 47.9 rating with a 71 share nor did it top 1987’s Giants/Denver Broncos game that resulted in a 47.9 rating coupled with a 68 share.

Television ratings for this year’s Super Bowl peaked during the fourth quarter, rising to 51.7 percent with a 73 share from 9:30 to 10 p.m. ET.
