Roaring out of the heartland comes the Midwest Rock ’n Roll Express tour, beginning the first week of May in Texas.

Featuring Styx from Chicago, REO Speedwagon from Champaign, Ill., and Motor City Madman Ted Nugent, the tour promises to bring you all those songs that dominated rock radio during the ‘70s and ‘80s; tunes like “Babe” and “Come Sail Away” from Styx, REO’s “Ridin’ The Storm Out” and “Keep On Lovin’ You,” and Nugent’s “Cat Scratch Fever” and “Wango Tango.”

As you might expect, the artists are very excited about this three-band tour.

“It’s gonna be a Twang Fest of screaming guitars and big, sing-along choruses that continue to be the soundtrack for the misbehavior of our collective fan base,” Styx singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw said. “In other words, a real good time.”

“I’m a Midwest boy, born and raised with Midwest values,” REO Speedwagon singer/guitarist Kevin Cronin said. “In the Midwest we work hard, play hard and rock hard. I am proud to join my brothers in Styx and Ted Nugent to celebrate Midwest rock ’n roll and represent the greatest rock fans in the world. I am ready to climb aboard the ‘Midwest Rock ’n Roll Express!’ Rock on baby!”

Of course, this quote-a-thon wouldn’t be complete without a few words from the Gonzo Rocker himself.

“The heart and soul of American R&B&R&R has always gushed forth from the heartland of America,” Ted Nugent said. “REO, Styx and The Nuge have always celebrated the power of our special music and on the mighty ‘Midwest Rock ’n Roll Express,’ the energy, attitude and spirit is more intense than ever. This is the soundtrack for the hardcore.”

The fun begins in Hidalgo, Texas, at the State Farm Arena May 1. Other stops include Los Angeles at the Greek Theatre May 6; Morrison, Colo., near Denver at Red Rocks Amphitheatre May 8; Corpus Christi, Texas, at Concrete Street Amphitheatre May 13; Charlotte, N.C., at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre May 17; Kansas City, Mo., at Starlight Amphitheatre June 21; Chicago’s Charter One Pavilion June 24; Clarkston, Mich., near Detroit at DTE Energy Music Theatre June 28; Atlantic City at Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa / Event Center July 1, and Gilford, N.Y., at Meadowbrook U.S. Cellular Pavilion July 7.

I hope Ted and Tommy Shaw get together and do some Damn Yankees tunes! That would be great...
