Cajun & Blues The Simi Valley Way

04:31 PM Wednesday 3/21/12 |   |

California’s Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival celebrates year No. 23 in May with performances by Candye Kane, The Fabulous Thunderbirds feat. Kim Wilson, Rosie Ledet and more.

Scheduled for May 26-27 at Simi Valley’s Rancho Santa Susanna Community Park, the roots-oriented festival prides itself on its Cajun and Zydeco beginnings. Boasting low ticket prices, ample parking and easy freeway access, the festival hosts blues on one stage, Cajun and Zydeco on the other.

Fielding a lineup curated by Delta Groove Records founder Randy Chortkoff, this year’s Blues Stage includes The Fab. T-Birds, Candye Kane accompanied by guitarist Laura Chavez, Rod Piazza & The West Coast Sheiks, Pieter “Big Pete” van der Pluijm, Terry Hanck, Shawn Pittman, The Mannish Boys and Nathan James & The Rhythm Scratchers.

Sure to be a highlight of the festival’s blues side will be a Muddy Waters tribute featuring James Cotton, Paul Oscher and other members of the late great bluesman’s band along with Waters’ son Mud Morganfield.

Meanwhile, the Cajun and Zydeco Stage will feature performances by Gator Beat, Bonne Musique Zydeco, Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble, Nathan & The Zydeco Cha-Chas and Billy Lee & The Swamp Critters.

There’s also plenty of good eating at the festival with authentic Cajun dishes as well as authentic Southern BBQ and many booths serving up food from all over the globe.

Priced at $20 per day, tickets are available now.  Click here for more information.
