Hard Rock Calling Calls On Soundgarden

04:31 PM Tuesday 3/27/12 |   |

We’ve got two bits of Soundgarden news for you – another festival appearance and a snippet of a brand new song.

Soundgarden will headline the first night of Hard Rock Calling, which takes place July 13-15 at London’s Hyde Park. The rock band will be joined by special guests Iggy & The Stooges and Cold Chisel. More acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

The previously announced lineup includes Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band headlining July 14. John Fogerty and Lady Antebellum will also take the stage Saturday.

Paul Simon headlines July 15 with a special performance of his award-winning 1986 album Graceland. Sunday’s special guests are Jimmy Cliff and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Pre-sale tickets for Soundgarden’s show go on sale this Thursday, March 29. The general on-sale is Friday, March 30. Tickets for Paul Simon are on sale now. Bruce Springsteen tickets are already sold out.

Before Soundgarden plays Hard Rock Calling, the band has lined up a series of European appearances beginning with May 25’s set at Sonisphere Festival in Madrid, Spain and scheduled up through June 10’s gig at Download Festival in Derby, United Kingdom.

And as for Soundgarden’s new song, on Monday the band posted a link to a 22-second clip of the track “Live To Rise.” Described as Soundgarden’s first studio recording in 15 years, the song will be featured in the upcoming superhero film “The Avengers.” The soundtrack will be available on iTunes May 1 and the movie hits theaters in the U.S. May 4.
