Monterey Jazz Festival 2012

Tickets are on sale now for the 55th annual Monterey Jazz Festival. This year’s arena lineup includes sets from Tony Bennett, Esperanza Spalding, the Pat Metheny Unity Band, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and Bill Frisell.

The festival takes place Sept. 21-23 in Monterey, Calif., at the Monterey Co. Fairgrounds.

The full schedule features 500 artists, 90 performances on 8 stages for a total of 30 hours of live music. Below is a list of the arena acts, which will perform on the Jimmy Lyons Stage, along with just a hint of the many grounds artists you can expect at this year’s jazz extravaganza.

First, let’s look at the arena artists. Friday, Sept. 21 includes Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra, Melody Gardot and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Robert Randoph & the Family Band play Saturday afternoon, followed by evening performances by Tony Bennett, Jack DeJohnette joined by Pat Metheny and Christian McBride, and Bill Frisell. Esperanaza Spalding, Next Generation Jazz Orchestra with Ambrose Akinmusire, and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts big band take the stage Sunday afternoon. The festival closes Sunday night with the Pat Metheny Unity Band  (with Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez and Ben Williams) and Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, Ambrose Akinmusire, Chris Potter, Benny Green and Lewis Nash.

The 2012 grounds artists include Jack DeJohnette Group, Mulgrew Miller Trio, Gerald Clayton Trio, Antonio Sanchez & Migration, Catherine Russell, Meklit Hadero, The Banana Slug String Band, Freshlyground, Mingo Fishtrap and many many more.

Full weekend arena packages start at $225 and include a reserved seat at the arena/Jimmy Lyons Stage, access to 7 grounds Stages and all festival activities. Full weekend grounds tickets start at $125 and daily grounds tickets begin at $40.

Single-day arena tickets go on sale June 28, priced at $66 for Friday and $132 for Saturday or Sunday.

Additional ticketing options such as a family discount package, local’s package and premier access pass are once again being offered.
