Honoring tennis legend and activist Arthur Ashe, the event kicks off the 2012 U.S. Open Aug. 25 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Hosted by Jordin Sparks and TV personality Quddus, The Kids’ Day begins with free tennis games, live music and attractions from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The free concert from up-and-coming musical talent includes urban supergroup Love Jones Girlz, Interscope Records prodigy Ahsan, and Caroline Sunshine! from the Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up.”
Jepsen takes the stage during the ticketed live tennis and music show portion of the day between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The lineup also features The Wanted, Owl City and Nickelodeon’s “How to Rock” stars Cymphonique Miller and Max Schneider.
Reigning U.S. Open Champion Novak Djokovic, U.S. #1 men’s singles player John Isner, three-time U.S. Open Champion Kim Clijsters and Mardy Fish, along with other top players and celebrities will take part in exhibition matches and skills competitions.
Activities include 10 & Under Tennis, Hess Express Obstacle Course, Hess Target Time, Nike Tennis, IBM Speedzone, Xerox Beat the Pro, Mario Tennis Open for Nintendo 3DS, USTA Serves/Aetna Tennis Skills, PTR Speed Tennis, USPTA Little Tennis, USRSA Pro Racquet Round-UP and World TeamTennis. Kids and their families can also watch the pros practice, get players’ autographs, take part in a juggling workshop, get their face painted or hair braided, and attend storytelling.
Tickets are on sale now. General admission promenade tickets are $10 and loge tickets are $20.
A portion of the proceeds benefit the National Junior Tennis and Learning network, which was established by Ashe along with Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder in 1969.
