Coachella: The Cruise

04:01 PM Tuesday 7/17/12 | |

Your favorite Indio, Calif., festival is spending December out at sea. Coachella’s very own cruise, the S.S. Coachella, is sailing off to the Bahamas and Jamaica with Pulp, Hot Chip, Yeasayer, Girl Talk and more.

Presented by Goldenvoice, the inaugural S.S. Coachella Music Festival At Sea is described as “an intimate gathering of Coachella music fans aboard the brand new Celebrity Silhouette.” Just how intimate? According to the New York Times, the 1,000-foot, 122,000-ton ship has room for 2,800 fans.

Fans have two voyages to choose from – a 3-day trip to the Bahamas or a 4-day journey to Jamaica. With both cruises departing from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., the trip to Nassau, Bahamas, is set for Dec. 16-19, followed by the journey to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Dec. 19-23. To get on board you must be 21 or older with a valid passport expiring no earlier than June 2013.

Both destinations share the same lineup, which also includes James Murphy (DJ set), Sleigh Bells, Simian Mobile Disco, Z-Trip, !!!, Warpaint, DJ Harvey, EL-P, Killer Mike, Black Lips, The Gaslamp Killer, Grimes, Cloud Nothings, Jason Bentley, The Rapture (DJ set), Father John Misty, Tokimonsta and Alf Alpha. Music will play from early afternoon to deep into the night, with most artists playing twice during each cruise.

The Celebrity Silhouette is equipped with 12 dining venues, nine bars, multiple live music settings, shopping, a casino and an “amazing” spa. On-board activities include a live DJ tutorial from “highly trained professionals,” wine tasting with James Murphy and Justin Chearno, manicures from nail master Ria Lopez, DIY arts & crafts workshop, Snowball Bar Crawl, a discussion with the key players who put on Coachella, and more. Additional planned activities and surprises will be revealed in the coming months.
