In July Sigel was sentenced to two years in prison for tax evasion between 2003-2005. He owed more than $348,000 in taxes during those three years on more than $1 million in income, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The 38-year-old rapper, who pleaded guilty, reports to prison Sept. 12.
Fans will get a few more chances to see Sigel live before he gets locked up. The tour includes a stop at New York City’s S.O.B’s Aug. 16 and two gigs on the West Coast – Aug. 30 in West Hollywood at the Key Club and Aug. 31 in Oakland, Calif., at The New Parish. More dates will be announced soon.
Beans will also make an appearance on BET’s “106 & Park” Aug. 24 as well as “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” Sept. 6.
Sigel’s new album, This Time, is due out Aug. 28 on Ruffhouse Records with a distribution deal with EMI Label Services. Featuring a guest appearance by Akon, The 11-track release is described as “a record about introspection and redemption.”
The first single, “The Reunion,” can be heard on major urban stations now. The tune reunites his State Property gang featuring Omillio Sparks, Young Chris, Peedi Crakk and Freeway and samples Sly & The Family Stone’s “You Can Make It If You Try.”
“It’s real life stories,” Sigel said. “People go through things and that’s the music that I make. My music is honest. You have a lot of dudes that live the façade. They start falling to the character that they are portraying in the music. I don’t do that.”
