What Is Tom Waits Up To?

03:01 PM Thursday 8/2/12 |   |

Tom Waits has been getting fans talking this week with a few intriguing photos and cryptic messages.

Three weeks after posting videos of his recent performances on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” and “The Late Show With David Letterman,” the singer/songwriter updated his website July 31 with the photo seen below. The post’s title asks: “Permission To Come Aboard?”

The Internet quickly started analyzing what it could all mean and trying to figure out what might happen Aug. 7. Of course, possible ideas tossed around include a new album or a tour announcement.

On Aug. 2 Waits posted another photo saying “Coming August 7.” Now he’s ditched the eye patch and sword but the pirate/ocean theme continues. Today’s caption says: “I Breathe Better Underwater.”

Readers, what do you think is coming Aug. 7? Leave a comment and give us your best theory.

Waits, who hasn’t toured since 2008, released his most recent album, Bad as Me, last year.
