A New Wiggles Era Approaches

01:01 PM Thursday 8/9/12 |   |

Having entertained children all over the globe for more than two decades, three members of Australia’s The Wiggles prepare to pass the baton to a new generation.

Wiggles members Murray Cook (Red Wiggle), Jeff Fatt (Purple Wiggle) and Greg Page (Yellow Wiggle) are calling it quits at year’s end. However, their departure doesn’t mark the end of The Wiggles. Instead, it marks the beginning of a new chapter in Wiggleland with incoming Wiggles members Emma Watkins, Lachlan Gillespie and Simon Pryce stepping in to fill their shoes and keep their colors flying.

The new members will work alongside Blue Wiggle Anthony Field. The three incoming Wiggles were hand-picked by their predecessors.

For Page, the newly announced Wiggle shuffle will take place almost a full year after he returned to the group. A rare nervous system disorder – dysautonomia – forced the original Yellow Wiggle to retire in 2006. Saying he was “feeling great,” Page announced his return to The Wiggles in January.

But before three-quarters of The Wiggle walk off into that multi-colored sunset, they have a few more shows to do together, giving their young fans another dose of what made the children’s group so popular.

Playing a string of U.S. shows in August, The Wiggles return to North America in October for a series of Canadian gigs along with a few stops in the Lower 48.
