Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson & More Rock The Vote

04:01 PM Monday 8/20/12 |   |

With just about a week to go before Rock The Vote launches its 2012 Road Trip, the Foo Fighters have announced a “rare intimate club show” to benefit the country’s largest non-partisan registration organization.

The Rock The Vote Road Trip will send its bus to universities across the States to sign up new voters and educate the youth as part of its mission “to engage and build political power for young people in our country.”

The excursion kicks off Aug. 28 in Saint Leo, Fla., at the Saint Leo University and runs through a Sept. 19 stop at Penn State University in University Park, Pa.

The Foo Fighters show is scheduled Sept. 5 at the 2,000-capacity Fillmore Charlotte in North Carolina. The Rock The Vote bus tour will be stopping by Charlotte at the University of North Carolina that day between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Charlotte is also the site of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, held from Sept. 3-6.

Rock The Vote hopes that the road trip will help the organization reach its goal of registering 1.5 million voters.

The bus, which features an exterior designed by celebrated street artist Mr. Brainwash, comes equipped with laptop kiosks to register voters and provide info about voter ID requirements, polling locations and more.

The tour stops will feature speakers and celebrity hosts including Jack Johnson, Motion City Soundtrack, Tabi Bonney and Asher Roth.

Johnson helps close out the last tour stop in University Park, Pa., by performing along with G. Love and ALO.

“By voting, the youth has the power to shape the world they want,” Johnson said. “If you like to rock and if you like having the right to vote, come out and help us Rock The Vote on Sept. 19.”

Tickets for the Foo Fighters show go on sale Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. EST.
