AEG, C3 Acquire Front Gate Tickets

03:01 PM Monday 9/17/12 | |

Texas-based Front Gate Tickets has been acquired by a joint venture formed between C3 Presents and AEG (and its white-label ticketing partner Outbox Enterprises).

What had been among the largest independent ticket firms in the business will now be owned by the two companies, with Maura Gibson, C3’s former head of ticketing, at the helm.

Gibson and Front Gate will at least be in familiar company; C3 Presents partner Charles Attal was one of the company’s owners, and Front Gate’s platform has already been employed by AEG and C3 for big events including Coachella, Stagecoach, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits festivals. It will retain the Front Gate name under the new ownership.

Coachella and Stagecoach are produced by AEG’s Goldenvoice while Lolla and ACL fests are C3 events. So it’s expected that the joint venture will be especially useful for the companies’ festival businesses.

“We have been working closely with Front Gate over the years to redefine the ticketing experience for our customers,” said C3 Presents partner Charlie Walker. “Their innovation in this space has kept us at the forefront of delivering a unique experience at our festivals.”

The partnership will come in especially handy as Goldenvoice prepares to expand its festival grip on California’s Coachella Valley, where it hopes to plant its footprint on two more weekends per year, from three to five. And it clearly gives Outbox Enterprises’ axs Ticketing a leg up on big festival business.

“The Front Gate acquisition is a perfect complement to our axs Ticket,” said Bryan Perez, AEG’s president of digital, ticketing and media. “The festival experience is like no other and we believe is best served by a ticketing platform that understands and innovates around that uniqueness.

“With their large roster of existing festival clients, and now backed by the country’s leading festival promoters, C3 Presents and Goldenvoice, Front Gate will create a world-class solution for festivals of all sizes, that puts the needs of the fans and promoters at the forefront.”

Front Gate Tickets, according to a joint statement, will remain active in ticketing for clubs theatres and artist ticketing while axs will continue to support arenas and stadium networks as well as AEG’s facility network.
