Authorities at the border checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas, strike again. Fiona Apple’s tour was interrupted Wednesday when she was arrested for hashish possession.
TMZ.com (of course) got the scoop on the story and posted a copy of her mug shot online. The photo shows the singer with her eyes closed and a solemn look on her face, standing just a few centimeters above the 5-foot mark on the height chart.
According to the gossip site, after Apple’s tour bus was stopped for inspection authorities found hash (described as “a strong form of cannabis”). She was also reportedly in possession “of a small amount of weed.”
The initial report from TMZ stated that Apple was being held at the Hudspeth County Jail.
In January Snoop Dogg paid a visit to the Hudspeth County Jail after he was arrested at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint. His crime? Authorities said they found several joints on the rapper’s tour bus and he was cited for possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Willie Nelson was also busted for marijuana possession at the checkpoint in 2010. The county’s lead prosecutor wanted the singer to appear in court and perform “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” but Nelson instead followed the common procedure for other folks that break the law and paid a fine.
Apple was stopped in Sierra Blanca after playing a gig in Mesa, Ariz., on Tuesday. Her next show is scheduled tonight in Austin, Texas, at the Austin City Limits Live At Moody Theater.
Update: Sierra Blanca Sheriff’s office spokesman Rusty Flemming told the Associated Press Apple spent the night at Hudspeth County jail and would be bonded out Thursday.
Tonight’s Austin gig has been postponed. According to ACL-Live.com, details for a rescheduled show will be announced shortly. Tickets will be valid for the rescheduled date.
