The annual festival celebrating Bob Moog and his groundbreaking synthesizer creations lays down everything you need to know, including who, where and when for Moogfest 2012.
Scheduled for Oct. 26-27 in Moog’s adopted hometown of Asheville, N.C., this year’s Moogfest has plenty to like. Among the acts appearing at Asheville’s many venues are Primus, Nas, Explosions In The Sky, Orbital, and Thomas Dolby.
Speaking of Dolby, the man who was once “Blinded By Science” will join a short list that already includes Devo and Brian Eno when he receives the Moog Innovation Award.
Other happenings include Moogfest’s partnership with Orbital giving everyone’s inner producer a chance to submit their best remixes of the duo’s “Where Is It Going.” Winners will attend Moogfest as VIPs, meet Orbital and see their creation distributed via Orbital’s Soundcloud and Facebook pages.
Moogfest also features Dr. Bob’s Interactive Sound Experience. Slotted for the lobby of the Diana Wortham Theatre, the, well, “experience” features new innovations as well as tools of the trade such as oscilloscopes, effects pedals and, perhaps best of all, Theremins. Of course, there will be lots of synthesizers to check out as well.
Produced in conjunction with Moog Music and the city of Asheville, the festival benefits the Bob Moog Foundation. A look at the schedule shows Moogfest performances spread out over five venues.
