Promoters in Australia have discovered a stellar way to begin the new year by booking Mariah Carey for the first week of 2013. Of course, they have 51 weeks to top themselves. That’s something they can ponder while putting tickets on sale this week.

Presented by Retfar Entertainment and UAE Presents, at this time the “American Idol” judge/mega-star is down for two dates Down Under – Jan. 1 in Gold Coast at the Convention Center & Expo and Jan. 3 in Sydney at Allphones Arena.

The Sydney gig will mark Carey’s first appearance in that city in 14 years. As you can probably guess, folks at the Allphones are crazy with anticipation.

“Kicking off the year with such a music icon is the perfect way to start 2013,” Allphones Arena general manager Guy Ngata said. “Mariah is a true pop princess and we can’t wait to welcome an artist of her caliber into Sydney’s must-play venue.”

Tickets go on sale Nov. 22. For those of you who like to experience concerts in style, the Total Mariah Carey Concert Experience VIP package offered for the Sydney gig includes a diamond or platinum reserved ticket, a 90-minute hospitality pre-concert event, pre-show entertainment and a one hour post-show party where one lucky guest will win a door prize. The whole shebang is hosted by Australia media personality Richard Wilkins.
