Big Day Out News: Lucha VaVOOM, Childish Gamino

02:01 PM Tuesday 11/20/12 | |

Mexican masked wrestling and strippers are on the bill for Australia’s Big Day Out traveling festival as Lucha VaVOOM debuts Down Under. Meanwhile, BDO announces its side shows, booking Childish Gambino gigs in Melbourne and Sydney.

Luca VaVOOM, the traveling show starring wrestling, burlesque and comedy, is headed south of the equator for the January 2013 edition of the annual Big Day Out festival and the already announced lineup featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend and others.

While this will be the first time Lucha VaVOOM has ever played Australia, you can bet the high-octane, over-the-top mixture of wrestling and striptease will leave an impression. Having recently celebrated its 10th anniversary at Los Angeles’ Mayan Theater, Lucha VaVOOM has sold out 1,000-seaters across the globe, entertaining people all over the world with its take on 1960s Mexican Lucha Cinema.

Lucha VaVOOM isn’t the only recent addition to Big Day Out. The festival has also announced its annual side shows. Already on the BDO’s lineup, Childish Gambino will play a couple of gigs during the festival’s off nights, headlining Sydney’s The Standard Jan. 16 and The Hi-Fi in Melbourne Jan. 23.

Jan. 18 – Sydney, Sydney Showgrounds
Jan. 20 – Gold Coast, Parklands

Jan. 26 – Melbourne, Flemington Racecourse
