Bass Player Live! 2013: Geezer Butler, Lee Rocker & More

03:01 PM Friday 8/23/13 | |

This year’s edition of Bass Player Live! will celebrate heavy metal’s favorite geezer along with a very special rocker. We’re talking about Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler, as well as The Stray Cats’ Lee Rocker. The event includes musician clinics, panels and an all-star concert.

Hosted by Bass Player magazine, the clinics and panels are held at S.I.R. Studios in Hollywood, Calif., Nov. 9-10 while the concert is scheduled Nov. 9 at Los Angeles’ The Fonda.

In addition to honoring Butler and Rocker, 26-year-old Australian bassist Tal Wilkenfeld will be presented with the “Young Gun” award. If you’ve ever seen her on stage, including past tours with Jeff Beck, you know she’s certainly earned all of the accolades from fellow musicians and the press alike.

All three honorees are set to perform at the concert, which has lined up a long list of acts including Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, Megadeth’s David Ellefson, Anthrax’s Charlie Benante and Frank Bello, Slayer’s Kerry King, Black Label Society’s Zakk Wylde and J.D. DeServio, and Pantera’s Rex Brown. Blakso (who has worked with Rob Zombie and is part of Ozzy Osbourne’s band) will also be there, as well as Rudy Sarzo (who currently tours with Queensrÿche with Geoff Tate), Buzz Campbell (who’s worked with Lee Rocker) and Billy Sheehan.
