Madonna Announces Surprise Club Show Down Under

01:01 PM Friday 3/4/16 | |

On the eve of her first Australian tour in 23 years, Madonna announced a free club show for her Icon fan club winners and for selected tour partner Telstra’s customers. The March 10 show, titled “Madonna: Tears Of A Clown,” is at the 1500-capacity Forum Theatre in Melbourne.

She had already hinted about the gig during her show in Macau. It is expected to be a reprise of her “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” stand-up performance last April during which she revealed, “I’m kind of a closet comedian.” The Forum show opens with a DJ set from Mary Mac.

The singer said in a statement March 4, “I wanted to do something special for Australia because you have been so patient and waited so long – the Tears of a Clown show will make its debut on March 10th. Performance art, comedy, story telling and music of course! Especially for you my Rebel Heart fans down under!”

After playing 82 shows in 21 countries, the Rebel Heart Tour winds up Down Under. After making her New Zealand debut at Vector Arena, Auckland (March 5, 6) Madonna heads to Australia. Following the Forum show, she is at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena (March 12, 13), Brisbane Entertainment Centre (March 16, 17) and Sydney Allphones Arena (March 19, 20).

Speculation in the Australia media suggests that Kylie Minogue could join Madonna at one of the arena shows. London-based Minogue returned to Sydney this week to play a March 3 corporate gig before 300 A-listers to mark Qatar Airways’ inaugural flight from Sydney
