I went to the show in INDY at the Vogue on 4/23/09. I was pretty awesome; I thought it would be better though (I had high expectations). I don’t think the band was feeling well, one of the members did not even make it, but all in all it was a good show. RRTFB’s set lasted like an hour and they took the stage at about 10pm. I love the energy that Robert brings! He makes the show great! I think mostly that the venue (Vogue) was the biggest issue. The stage seemed to low to the ground, and I could not see much. But the issue may have been because, everyone that attended the show was like 8 feet tall, I could not see anything. And the BO from the lovely giants that were pushing against us throughout did not help. These people… Constantly coming and going, pushing and spilling beer on us. If the freak with the long black beard and the planetarium shirt wasn’t so flippen tall, I was about to go crazy on him and the weirdo’s he was with. My wife is only 5 foot 1 and he had no regard for her and kept running into her, and making her smell his raunchy arm pits. Ok… Moving on…. So we got fed up with the dorks, and we made our way to that balcony and were able to enjoy the rest of the show! Robert really ripped it up on the “I don’t know what you come to do” and “Deliver Me” I was so into it and energized by it, that performance that it kept me going all the way back to Cincy. RRTFB was on my list of must see bands and they did not disappoint.

AFTER A LATE 12AM START....THE BAND STARTED OFF WITH THEIR OPENING JAM/TUNING PLAYING FOR NEARLY 3 HOURS WHEN IT WAS ALL DONE..ALLEY KATZ WAS FULL TO THE BRIM WITH @600 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE.THE AUDIENCE WAS TREATED TO A HIGHLY ENERGETIC PERFORMANCE INCLUDING SOME DANCING BY ROBERT RANDOLPH INVITING MEMBERS OF THE AUDIENCE TO DANCE WITH HIM ONSTAGE.IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THIS BAND ..YOU ARE DEFINITELY MISSING ONE OF THE HOTTEST JAM BANDS ON TOUR TODAY,RR PLAYS A ELECTRIC PEDAL STEEL..IF YOU LIKE THE SLIDE GUITAR, THEN THIS IS ONE MAN TO SEE! What a great night! It is hard to put into words what all happened in this night, but lets just say, everyone there was going nuts. Not just those that were there to see Bob, not just those hoping Trey would come out, not just those that really had a thing for the girl in the B-52's. What started as a somewhat different kind of evening with an interesting jam from Rob Wasserman and DJ Logic, turned into a full on night of surprises. The energy really started to get going when Robert Randolph came out. He is obviously a big shot in NYC, but for good reason, this man is a showman. And when he and the family band got going, it was really something....and then Derek Trucks came out. This is something that people have been wanting to see for some time, and it happened, and it was beautiful. And if that wasn't enough, the new guy on the block, John Mayer came out to strut his stuff, and show that there is more to him and his axe than making high school girls swoon. Two other points that could have seemed quite cheesy, but weren't were 3 of the founding members from Blue Oyster Cult and moe. playing "Don't Fear the Reaper," and then Particle and Kate & Fred from the B-52's playing "Love Shack." Both of these events were a guilty pleasure for everyone in attendance, and it really shows who wants to be a part of the great scene that is becoming almost mainstream. Trey coming out early on to accept the Archival Album of the Year award got everyone really excited for when he did eventually emerge on stage to play a few tunes. Would love to see a transcribed version of Trey's acceptance speech for the Tour of the Year Award. It was pretty funny, and a little revealing one could say. All in all, great fun. The Tom Tom Club / Dirty Dozen Brass Band on the side stage was more fun than expected, largely due to the high energy of the selected songs, and the great guests that embraced them throughout the evening. Reid Genaur's leading of "Take Me To The River," was indeed the highlight over there, but Fuzz ripping it up all night kept things interesting as well.
