Vikki Carr at the Westport Playhouse in the musical "I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It On The Road" was pure magic! I have seen this each night that it has played and I cried the night it closed because I knew Ms. Carr's voice would go with it! It is simply the best musical I've seen on or off Broadway and I look forward to many, many more performances from Ms. Carr in the future, whether in a play or in concert - I know I won't be disapointed and every mile I travel to see her perform will be wort it!

Vikki Carr At Del Mar Has Garnered More Than One Ovation… Yes, folks, that’s the news line that would be on Internet banners and newspaper headlines as well. I’m informing you on what happened at Vikki’s recent smash concert date in Del Mar, California. It was the crème de la crème as far as Fair dates go! It was a nice Sunday evening at dusk with a wonderful California sunset settling over the concert stage and Fair Grandstand. It was so exciting to see Vikki in California again. (This kind of event in California and all takes me back to the old days of concerts and all that EXCITEMENT. Not that it was that long ago, mind you; it’s more of a feeling.) It just does my heart good to attend a concert (by none other than) at least once a year. Finally, the time came for Vikki to walk out on stage and it was electric. The crowd was huge due to the fact, in part, that it was a Dia de la familia-07/01/01 day. We all cheered as Vikki started singing – " I Sing Of Love". Well, she did just that and she got an enormous amount of love back. Vikki had a new outfit I hadn’t seen before that was very smart. She wore a dark salmon colored sequined jacket over a black blouse and pants. She looked beautiful with, yes, that wonderful California sunset as her backdrop. Vikki did her great "retro" show, but with a few substitutions that were great. I love this show because I would have never heard these older songs sung live (which is Vikki at her best) because they were released long ago. So it’s like hearing and seeing her perform them for the first time which is very special. I loved "Real Live Boy" and "Look At That Face". And her version of "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" really, is so surreal for me; I mean it really takes me into a really neat place. Anyway, the audience couldn’t help but ask for Spanish songs and Vikki complied with singing "Total" a cappella. They also were ecstatic about her tour de force "Ya Lo Se Que Tu Te Vas". I love her talking before "Mirror". I think her saying that -if we count on what the media tells us about how we should look and portray our image, we are in a lot of trouble- shows her tremendous compassionate nature. Her singing of this song with just piano accompaniment is really very extraordinary. Other favorites of mine are: "Anyone who had a Heart" and "Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You". The crowd had assembled themselves right in front of the stage where there were no seats only pavement to sit on or stand; there was no room left and the grandstand was filled as well. Then came the time for Vikki to sing her signature song-"It Must Be Him" and receive her first standing ovation. Then she was brought back to sing the great song duet with Bill Canto-"The Prayer"! Once again, another standing ovation and Vikki was moved to come back and sing- a very moving song for her and everyone-"Por Amor". Just watching her sing it is all about ‘love’! And yet a third ovation and the audience were still asking for more. I’m sure that Vikki was very, very happy with the love reception she received; after the second ovation she murmured-"I needed this". I was and am truly happy for her and us as well. Her immediate family was there: her sisters and families and friends and her mom. I’m sure that it will go down as a night to always remember. I know I will!

Date of Concert: 6/24/2009 | Location: San Jacinto, Ca
What artist is worthy enough to sing for royalty and 5 U.S. presidents? I found out one magical night in San Jacinto. Vikki Carr is all entertainer. She can make you cry with her powerful rich voice. She can also make you laugh with her rye sense of humor. When she sings you know she feels it in her soul. She has such a love for her sold-out audience. Vikki Carr also knows who loves her and she gives them everything she has and then some. No doubt, she'll be a sell-out in Temecula at the Pechanga Resort on December 11, 2009. If you haven't already guessed, I'll be there! (From Kentucky) By the way, her biggest ovation came when she mentioned her latest grammy win in 2008, her 4th.

Date of Concert: 10/1/2005 | Location: Edinburg, TX, USA
A Concert Under the Stars with Number ONE STAR--MISS VIKKI CARR! On October 1, 2005 the University of Texas Pan American (UTPA) in Edinburg, TX held their Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology (HESTEC) Community Day from 4-10pm, free and open to the public. Exhibits including a prototype of the Mars Pathfinder land rover were way cool and a big hit with kids and adults alike. But they saved the BEST for last: VIKKI CARR! Taking the stage at 9pm, Vikki gave a spectacular closing concert. I just had to go! But there were challenges: my 88 year old mother who was very ill, an hour and a half drive ( I live in Brownsville, TX), an outdoor concert in the Texas heat and humidity and no seating. What to do? Well, when the going gets tough, the tough get going! Where there's a will, there's a way! Vikki's fan club president, Vito to ensure my mother's comfort, worked his magic and got someone from the university to meet us on our arrival. But, of course, we took a wrong turn upon entering Edinburg and got lost! I finally had to give in and call my contact person, Gabi (our guardian angel) and she was incredible. She gave us directions-and we still bungled it -and had to call her again. She asked if I could see Pizza Hut - I said yes - and she said, "Stay there, I'm coming for you." She arrived and escorted us to the university and found us a parking space. Actually, I think she gave us her own. I put my mother in a wheelchair and then it was full steam ahead-all systems go! "Excuse me! Wheelchair coming through!" helped part the crowds like the Red Sea! And boy, was it crowded-organizers said 30,000 people attended. Gabi got us up to the stage under moon and stars, to the FRONT ROW! There were two rows of seats-for staff only- and fenced in. Everyone else had to stand. Gabi got us through the throngs of fans and through the fence to our front row seats marked, "VIKKI CARR RESERVED." We were in heaven! We sat down and watched an all-female mariachi group, Mariachi Femenil, and enjoyed their performance. Then I saw Mari Falcone start setting up and my heart began racing! By the way, I have a message for Mari, "You go, girl" You were really rocking Saturday night!" Then Vikki was announced, the music started, and on comes Vikki in all her glory! She started with Love Song from Live at the Greek and it was awesome! The arrangements were incredible and the band really rocked! Vikki was in top form. She looked and sounded great. She sang six songs in spanish and 11 in english. Someone shout out, "Ni Princesa Ni Esclava" and Vikki sang it acappella! And flawlessly! Some songs Vikki sang in her 90 minute non-stop concert were Bye Bye Blackbird, Spanish Harlem, A Song for You and America the Beautiful (which put a lump in my throat!" Vikki said she was going on the road again and that we were her first audience. She said she could feel the love we were giving and that it told her she was on the right track. The audience was wonderful. They were kids, teenagers, college students, adults and senior citizens and they knew all her songs. They were singing along with her and they clearly loved her. I felt honored and privileged to be with them. The concert was to be 60 minutes but Vikki went on for 90 minutes. Her adoring fans didn't want to let her go! And who can blame them? The concert was very upbeat and had my left foot tapping throughout the show. Vikki sang, she danced, she chatted with us-it was a night to remember! When the concert was over, Gabi escorted us to Vikki's limo. A big, burly guy was guarding it. I asked if Vikki was in there. He said, "She is, and you're not getting near her." Well, I'm Italian on my mother's side and that was the wrong thing to say to me. I went around him, waved to Vikki through the tinted windows, and guess what? Vikki lowered the window! She said, "Hi!" When I told her I was there with my mother, she said, "Where is she?" I said, "Over there, in the wheelchair" and she said, "Oh, bring the wheelchair over here. I'm sorry that I don't get out but my feet are killing me." She then craned her head out the window and said to my mother, "Hi, how did you like the show?" When I told Vikki that my mother is usually in bed by 9pm, she said, "Oh, I kept you up pretty late, I hope you liked the show." Indeed, she did! It was truly a magical evening for us and we are very grateful to Vito and Gabi who went out of their way to make this happen and make us feel so special. Las, but certainly not least, thank you Vikki, for lowering your window and being so gracious to us. This turned out to be Mother's last concert as she passed away eight months later. Your kindness to us will not be forgotten, Vikki.
