Date of Concert: 10/3/2009 | Location: San Diego, CA

October 3, 2009 Joan B. Kroc Performing Arts Theater, San Diego CA

Juice Newton with Carol Curtis performed a benefit concert for the Dystonia Medical Research Fund. This concert was organized by Paul Fowler, president of the Juice Newton Fan Club, who organized a similar event in 2006. At the start of the event an award was given to Paul by two dignitaries from Dystonia Support Organizations, one of which had came in from Chicago. At the start of the show, as a tribute to Otha Young, Paul sang a song written by him in the 1980s. Paul had said that Otha, who succumbed to cancer in August of this year, was instrumental in both the 2006 show and this current show. Paul also paid tribute to his current doctor for treating his dystonia and bringing back his voice.

Carol Curtis was the first to perform, and afterwards, she was presented with awards..
After a short break, Juice and her band then came on and put on a show similar to the show of the night before in Lafayette. LA. Juice expressed her appreciation to all who came to show support for a cause that effects a large number of people, but does not get a lot of exposure.

As in the previous Louisiana, in announcing “The Sweetest Thing” Juice made a poignant tribute to Otha Young, the author of the song, lead guitarist and Juice’s partner of 40 years. Juice got special cheers for “Angel of the Morning”, the song that most of us remember her for. As in Louisiana, Willy did a great job with the guitar solo at the end of “Angel of the Morning”.

At the end of the show, Juice was presented with awards from Paul, and from the two Dystonia dignitaries.

After the show, Juice and Carol greeted her guests and signed autographs and offered Cds for sale.

Next week Juice and her band are off to Newfoundland Canada for two shows.

Date of Concert: 10/2/2009 | Location: Lafayette, LA

October 2, 2009 Cypress Bayou Pavillion, Charendon. New Orleans

Juice Newton performed for over 1000 casino guests at the Pavillion at Shorty’s Casino in Charendon, LA. Walking down the corridor to the Pavillion, guests view posters of the many prior performers. From Lee Greenwood, Dolly Parton up to Taylor Hicks, plus many more. The venue consisted of about 60 tables of 24 seats each. Juice and her band were well received by the crowd, which had started to line up at 5pm for the 8pm show. Mid-show, in announcing “The Sweetest Thing”, Juice made poignant tribute to Otha Young, the author of the song, lead guitarist and Juice’s partner of 40 years. He had just died in August, and is sadly missed. Doing a remarkable job of replacing Otha at vocals an lead guitar is Willy Donica the former the stage manager for the band..

The dance floor was jam packed all night, and not entirely with gray-haired seniors. Juice’s music appeals to all ages, Juice announced that Andre Mayeux, the keyboard player, was here near his hometown here, Mamou, and his original band partners from when he was a teenager were here tonight

Juice did her famous kick during “Memphis” and got cheers for holding long notes in the “Angel of the Morning”. Willy did such a great job with the guitar solo at the end of “Angel of the Morning” that it was a touching remembrance of Otha.

After the show, as usual, Juice greeted her guests and signed autographs.
Tomorrow Juice and the band will hustle back to San Deigo for 7pm benefit show for Dystonia at the Joan Kroc Center.
