i am writing about bridg8 review. mellencamp took over the show and the audience was the proof. the only negative thing was he never played jack and diane and no encore, but worth the drive to see my favorite musician!

I agree with jsebastian's commets about Mellencamp being too short of a show. This is my second time seeing him in concert the first when he was still being billed as John Cougar, not even the Cougar Mellencamp phase yet, so it was quite awhile ago. He played quite a few memorable hits that were crowd pleasers. I noticed after his act there was quite a few people leaving not sticking around for Bob Dylan. Great day for a great summer concert experience.

Too bad the show couldn't be a bit longer. Nobody wants to see any show this fierce and focused end so soon. Yes, Mellencamp was one of three acts - but he was certainly a supernova in the midst of the other two stars.

Last night was my first time seeing Johnny Cougar/John Cougar Mellencamp/John "don't call me Cougar"Mellencamp. I went with a friend who had seen John a few years back and the build up was remarkable. I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of the midwesterner to hit the stage. I had suffered through the opening act of one of Oklahoma City's own sons - Grahm Colton. While Colton wasn't the worst I had heard, he would be better suited for a local java joint. Still I was happy for the young man - he was opening for a RNR Hall of Famer in his home town. Out comes Mellencamp. The stage is one of the most lack luster I've ever seen, but hey the music should be good. Opening song - Pink Houses - but where did this version come from? Throughout the first part of the act I kept waiting for the show to really get rolling. However, it never did. Then we were exposed to Mellencamp alone on the stage with his accoustic guitar. Four songs, the last of which was a naked version of "Small Town". The band returns to the stage and gives us a taste of what the evening should be with "Rain on the Scarecrow". This song was played as it should have been. John then treated the fans to some real RNR with "Crumblin Down", ROCK in the USA" and of course the closer, "Jack and Diane". The encore was "Authority Song" which featured John's 13yr old son on rhythym guitar. The concert certainly had its rockin' moments but they were seperated by slow, dragging segments. John of course had to preach us a sermon on racisim (which by the way I agree with him 100% on this but why have to bring it up at a concert - I go there for the music and a little escape). John proudly let the audience know that he didn't give a f*ck about what people said of him being "too political". Well John, that's all well and good, but did you notice the audience? More empty seats than not. Yeah, you did notice the lack of a crowd because you mentioned it at the beginning of the show. John's a great artist and I love his music, however, I like it better in my apartment listening to it on my Bose Wave Machine.
