Clapton and Steve Winwood at The Oracle in Oakland - at the same time the A's were playing the Tigers! We expected wall-to-wall people but it was so well organized that we had no problem getting off BART and walking to the venue. Getting inside and to our seats was even easier. The Oracle staff that we dealt with were all first class and helpful. The concert itself was... OK. Winwood sounded better live than on the CD of the Madison Square Garden show. Clapton as always played with aplomb and virtuosity. The songs were slightly mechanical but well delivered. I thought Voodoo Child went on a little long. The acoustic version of Layla was right off the MTV version. Foreverman was probably the best performance. Cocaine as usual brought down the house. Winwood performed Low Spark of High Heeled Boys solo on the piano - and it was a treat. I've seen Clapton twice now - the first time in 1990 I think and if I was to compare this show with the earlier one - I'd have to say the 1990 concert was better by far. I'm not looking for theatrics and fireworks from Clapton, but to say his performance is understated is... well... understated!

if you have chance to go see this show then GO!!! of the many times i have seen EC perform in three decades no one else can bring out his true fire for an extended performance. Winwood is that catalyst that makes this show rock so much more than the usual blaise "competant" performance that Ec usually has been giving for the last thirty years. Better than the CREAM re-union concerts because of the real fire that was exhibited. EC was happy and joyful. oh and the SONGS. most of the Blind Faith disc was played sadly though not SEA OF JOY. the highlight for me was probably the jammy Voodoo Child and the closing DEAR MR FANTASY sadly though SW hardly picked up the electric guitar like last years MSG shows. Go see this show!!!

In forty years, we've seen EC 8 times. Missed his 5/3/08 appearance at the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa because of prostate cancer surgery. The show in Georgia was fabulous. He gets better with age. A lot of Dominoes material that hasn't been played since the 1971 tour. And, Motherless Children with 3 slide guitars! As ecrox wrote, best to check the setlist before buying so you won't be disappointed. There were no Cream songs because he had done that with the originals in '05. It didn't matter to me; every song was perfect. Looking forward to his next visit in the Tampa Bay area, whenever it comes.

I got to see Clapton for the first time ever, something i never thought i would be able to see. And i must say it blew me away, already knowing that Clapton had come out with a blues album ( him and J.J Cale) and also seeing the set list from the first couple of concerts i knew that it was going to be a blues type concert which is fine cause the blues is where he got his start. We knew going in to the concert that he wasn't going to play many songs from his double cd, but he did play layla, wonderful tonight, cocaine and motherless child which are all on the cd. anyone who says that a Clapton concert is bad cause he played blues songs is not a real clapton fan.
