I have always wanted to see Alice Cooper and I am so glad I did. From the very first song he comes out to "Schools Out" and the theatrics begins. He was beheaded, hung, stabbed. The costumes were pretty elaborate along with the stage props. He did not disappoint. Why did I wait so long to see him! Videos will be up soon on my youtube account (fnm86).

    Here is the set list:
    School’s Out
    Department of Youth
    I’m Eighteen
    Wicked Young Man
    Ballad of Dwight Fry
    Go to Hell
    Guilty
    Welcome to My Nightmare
    Cold Ethyl
    Poison
    Awakening
    From the Inside
    Nurse Rozetta
    Is It My Body
    Be My Lover
    Only Women Bleed
    I Never Cry
    Black Widow (instrumental)
    Vengeance is Mine
    Devil’s Food
    Dirty Diamonds
    Billion Dollar Babies

    Alice Cooper
DPAC – Durham Performing Act Center
    Wed. Sept. 30, 2009

The beginning is a nice place to start and usually that is with the
initial ticket on-sale date but DPAC is a new venue for me so when
the ticket software spins around like a slot machine stopping on a
number there is not that instant recognition that you are a winner or
a loser so I take my ticket in hand and hit the road on the day of
    show not really knowing.

It’s easy enough to find the Bulls Ballpark and there sits the venue
on a rise of green grass and winding sidewalks and out front is another
first, beer for sale outside the venue, very different.

The lobby has red carpet throughout, stairs or elevators can take you
to any level and never did I wait even a minute in a line. A chime
sounded with a countdown voice announcing “10 minutes before show
… 5 minutes before show” so it was time to enter the auditorium and the
red theme continues with great fitting seating and after seasons of
bar stools, aluminum bleachers and you name it this was like being
wrapped in a soft girl’s arms.

The opener was “5th Avenue Vampires” to which I had no clue about and
that can be entertaining but less so tonight. The feedback couldn’t quite
ever get dialed out completely and I did not catch the name of the
lead guitar player but it might well have been Saving Grace because he was
    their main course.

Down on his knees bending forward shredding it, playing with his teeth,
using the back of his hand like a slide, putting the guitar standing up
and playing it with his foot and then they went into Cheap Trick’s
“Dream Police” and his instrument died. You have never seen a guitar tech
run around and sweat so much, frantically trying to get it going again and
after following wire after wire it roared back and the crowd let out a yell
    of appreciation.

After a little Intermission it was time for the man Father Time cannot defeat,
Alice Cooper to hit the stage. The curtain came crashing down and there was
Alice in his black leather with a black walking stick twirling around in the
air, school is now in as they cranked-up a shortened version of “School’s Out”.

The stage was covered with very large hanging individual letters spelling out
“A” “L” “I” “C” “E” and shortly after ignition he shot his stick out into the
crowd and that was one very fine souvenir someone got to take home with them.

During “I’m Eighteen” he waved a crutch made out of bones, put on a military
hat and goose stepped back and forth across the stage. A man creature came
out, fiddled with the equipment and Alice impaled him with a metal rod.

Roll out the guillotine, chop off Alice’s head which falls in a basket and
he then walks around picking the head out and sings to it.

A hot girl looking like a cold corpse dressed as a nurse worked the stage with
a 8 foot hypodermic that was used to yet again do damage nearly human bodies.

During “I Never Cry” the gallows was center stage with a strapped in Rock Star
and it must have been high-noon because there was a hanging and yet again a
re-incarnated Alice was placed in a 5 foot box with his head out and dozens
of sharp spikes slammed through his body spewing liquids for added affect.
“Billion Dollar Babies” had reams of Cooper Cash being thrown about from his
sword as he chopped off a baby dolls’ head and then sang to it sweetly.

He introduced the band by name and when he got to the Lead Singer said “and
then you have ME – ME – ME!” which brought us to the closing number of this
Action Adventure as they finished out that first song shortened version of
“School’s Out” with Alice wearing an all silver mirrored reflection tux,
mirrored top hat and shinny chrome walking stick.

A dozen plus super large balloons bounced in the air moving throughout the
venue and as they worked their way back to the stage Alice was there to pop
them wide open with his fencing saber spewing confetti everywhere.

After twenty seven songs and multiple magical illusions in this theatrical
venue we had ventured through zombie land with a tour titled the
“Theatre Of Death” and lived to tell about it.

The Bears Den halloween night! I took my son who was 13 at the time. When I was 13 I saw Alice in the exact same building-the Niagara Falls Convention Center on 5/4/1975 ! How cool is that! Some things are meant to be-long live Alice!!
