The sound at Chastain is usually only marginal, but at the Bad Company/ Doobie Bros. show last year, it was absolutely HORRIBLE. I was in the rear third of the reserved seats, and the sound was so low that you had to strain to tell what song was being performed, and if anyone sang along, it completely drowned out the SUPPOSEDLY amplified vocals. The worst sound I have ever encountered at any venue ANYWHERE!!! I e-mailed the promoter, LiveNation, and they basically told me there were no problems with the sound.

Well, Chastain IS interesting. Name another organized mainstream venue where U can carry a cooler full of alcohol and food in with you. The people watching is outstanding there. Yes, if its an acoustic act the dinner party up front can be annoying,yes if its a rock show you will wish they could crank it up a little more but it sure beats the cookie cutter venue crap that is the norm. Chastain is the #1 medium market outdoor venue in Georgia. Take a poncho and roll with the flow. It is what it is and that is UNIQUE.

I had the good fortune to visit the Chastain last year to see BB King and Willie Nelson (we got an impromptu performance from Jimmy Carte lip synching the harmonica), I travel the world (based in Australia so we have to!)and I think this one of the neatest venues on a summer night, the picnic atmosphere is great. It is a place I'd dearly loveto return to and would recomend

Chastain is a great venue for the right act. The drawback to the park is that when people buy season tickets they end up going to see a lot of acts that they know nothing about and perhaps care about even less. Therefore they chat and dine (when the evening's event allows you to bring your picnic basket) and if you are unfortunate enough to get suck in seats around them you may not enjoy an act you really want to see. I would love to see the park upgrade the video monitors. No matter how good my seats are I tend to watch the monitors a lot and Chastain's are pathetic. Oh yeah, you are out of luck if it rains. hotterville is spot on

I have attended dozens of shows at Chastain through the years, and have NEVER had a bad seat. Sound has always been a problem since the location is in a residental area, but the amph. always has been super. ALOT BETTER THAN VERIZON WILL EVER BE!!. The major problem concerns all the "Rich" (Wish they were), and "Famous" (Think they are). Most of them have no idea who is on stage. They whine and cheese with their buddies, and the noise coming from the speakers is simply a nuiance. They just want to BE SEEN AT CHASTAIN. And it does not help that the promoters, LiveNation panders to this crowd, and bends over backward to kiss their rear ends, usually leaving good ole average Joe Concert, who just wants to see his favorite group, sitting in the back of the arena, and smelling all that stinky shrimp.

Could not disagree more. One of my all time favorite venues.The fact that you can bring your own Beverage and food in is FABULOUS. Atmosphere is very conductive to upscale sophisticated musical act. If you feel like you you must stand up and Boogie dance and mosh all night, then Chastains probably not fot you.

ya Stacy...go gotta just ignore the sit on their arse people at concerts. you get some of that at Verizon.....because lets face it, it's in Alpharetta.....but Chastain is MUCH, MUCH worse. At Verizon we put a little sign on our blanket at Styx / Boston last year....it said 'this is a rock concert......if you're offended by people standing and dancing DONT SIT BEHIND US !'

Hey, I'm taking in everything you all are saying on here. I have NEVER been to Chastain. Been here for 13 years, but haven't been there yet. You know after going to the new Verizon Amp in Alpharetta I'm curious if hooterville is right. Is this a bad place for a rock concert? Went to see Rod Stewart at VA and people were yelling and cussing at us to SIT DOWN!!! I was shocked and I don't want to go through that again. Do I have to sit down at Chastain????

and those wide seats come in real handy since all the wine and cheese farts never get off their butts and whine and complain about anyone who does.....dont get me wrong, Chastain might be fine for some types of music like James Taylor and the like....but is terrible for good rock or party country because of the type of crowd, noise restrictions, and curfew......terrible place for good concerts

And I totally disagree. At Chastain the seats are larger than at most venues with plenty of leg room. There is not a bad seat in the house as far as view and sound are concerned. The "Wine and Cheese Crowd" allows us to bring in our own coolers without the fear that some nut will throw bottles. Chastain is one of the *few* venues where decent beer is sold in bottles. Bathrooms and parking are adequate. Getting in and out is easy. I've been to at least 100 venues across the country and Europe - Chastain is easily in the top 10.

completly agree...terrible place to see a concert. Thank goodness for the new amphitheatre in Alpharetta. Real bands can play there and leave Chastain to the wine and cheese crowd to toast their boredom while sitting on their arses.
