A Few More Things: Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, Rockapalooza

Billy Joel’s big week continues with a few more gigs added to his schedule … Jimmy Buffett cancels Saturday’s show because of “severe weather” … Michigan festival calls it quits.

Believe it or not, we have yet another Billy Joel announcement to share.

He’s not wasting any time scheduling shows for his franchise at Madison Square Garden. After announcing Tuesday that he’ll play one show a month at the venue from January to infinity … and beyond, Joel revealed today that his seventh 2014 gig at MSG will take place July 2.

The first four franchise dates – Jan. 27, Feb. 3, May 21 and April 18 – are already sold out.

A presale for Citi card members is ongoing now for the July 2 show as well as the other shows announced this week – May 9 and June 21. Tickets go on sale to the public Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. EST.

Today Joel also announced that he’ll take the stage May 17 at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl for the first time in his career.

A presale for American Express card members begins Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. PST, followed by the general public onsale Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. PST.

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band aren’t going to make it to North Little Rock, Ark., this weekend.

An announcement on Buffett’s website says the Dec. 7 show at the Verizon Arena has been called off because of “severe winter weather conditions, including freezing rain, sleet and snow.”

Venue manager Michael Marion said, “I’ve spoken personally to the Arkansas Highway Department, our local meteorologists and have read all of the reports and the conditions for this weekend are simply prohibitive for us to host Jimmy Buffett tomorrow night. We regret we have had to cancel the concert, but our patrons safety is always first and foremost.”

Refunds are available at points of purchase.

Fans can forget about attending the seventh edition of Rockapalooza. Promoter Tim Corser broke the news to fans this week that 2013 marked the last year for the festival in Jackson, Mich.

“Rockapalooza Music Festival has been a part of my life for going on 7 years,” Corser wrote on Facebook. “It’s been an amazing time. I have met so many great people and have developed some amazing friendships and working relationships because of it. Special thanks to the Jackson County Fairgrounds for allowing me to host this event. My promise to myself was to walk away when I felt that my heart wasn’t in it anymore. I have nothing more to prove. I set out to do what I wanted to do and my goals are met, and with great comfort I say to everyone that Rockapalooza will not return to Jackson MI for another year.”

The 2013 Rockapalooza included sets from Mushroomhead, Candlebox, Saliva, Adam Gontier, Surrender The Fall and others.

The promoter added that “Rockapalooza Stole Christmas” and “Rockapalooza Southern Style” will be the last festivities for Rockapalooza. The Christmas show is scheduled Dec. 21 in Chesterfield, Mich., at the Diesel Concert Lounge, featuring Taproot, Pistol Day Parade and more. Southern Style, which is set for May 24 in Virginia, hasn’t announced a specific location or venue.
