Amazon’s cloud-based voice service Alexa can now purchase Ticketmaster tickets on several Amazon devices.
The implications are that now, simply by issuing a series of commands you can purchase sports or concert tickets without any visual interface, simply by talking to Alexa through an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot.
In order for the purchases to be completed, one must first link their Ticketmaster account to Alexa. But issuing commands such as “Alexa, open Ticketmaster,” now begin a process that will allow you discover or find events on sale through Ticketmaster in a particular area.
“Ticketmaster has the largest ticket inventory in the world, and our team is always looking to leverage it along with our open platform to reach new fans,” Dan Armstrong, Ticketmaster’s SVP and GM of distributed commerce, said in a statement. “This new integration with Alexa will offer yet another avenue for fans to access the best live events, allowing them to discover and buy tickets using only their voice. We’re excited to be working with Amazon Alexa and look forward to seeing fans utilizing it to see the artists, teams and events they love the most.”
Ticketmaster is always looking for new tech and integrations, boasting partnerships with Facebook, Spotify, Groupon, BandsinTown, Samsung, and Youtube.
Some of the biggest stories with the ticketing giant recently have been overseas, as yesterday Academy Music Group venues, including O2 Academy Brixton and O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, would partner with Ticketmaster to offer 100 percent digital tickets. In December the company’s Ticket Exchange program went fully live in the U.K., promising a platform to resell tickets for the value they were purchased at, including fees.
