With 35,000 three-day passes already sold for its originally scheduled date of Aug. 13-15, Baja Beach Fest has informed Pollstar it is for the first time staging a second weekend, Aug. 20-22.
The second weekend will preserve the same lineup as the first – including Ozuna, Anuel AA, and J Balvin – and will be held on the same site in Rosarito, Mexico.
Baja Beach Fest is 100 percent independent and put on by Chris Den Uijl and Aaron Ampudia. Den Uijl told Pollstar: “Aaron and I have self-funded this thing together, we put our life savings in on year one, we put it all on the line on the shared belief that we were doing something different that was inclusive of a genre and demo of people that were underserved. We used consumer feedback to inform that and the response was incredible.”
Ampudia told Pollstar that although the festival is a year out, the organizers will be using the extra time to make the lead-up to the festival and the on-site experiences extra special.
Ampudia’s family has long-standing relationships with the government and business community of Rosarito and last year the two talked to Pollstar about how they were able to turn Rosarito into a cultural destination for one of Latin Music’s most energizing events.
This year Ampudia says they are working in close collaboration with the local and state authorities to keep the festival in compliance with all COVID regulations and, while the hope is that business will be able to return to some state of normalcy by August 2021, they will undoubtedly be incorporating many of the lessons learned about sanitation and disease prevention.
