Swiss insurance company Basler Versicherungen is extending its sponsorship contract with the Baloise Session by another five years, securing the boutique festival’s future up through 2025.
Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
As festival CEO Beatrice Stirnimann explained in a 2017 interview with Pollstar, the festival could not be done without its sponsors. Taking place in Basel’s 1,500-capacity Event Hall, the setup resembles the old music clubs in New York: small, round tables, close to the stage. The only bar is outside the auditorium and there’s no table service.
There’s no supporting program or fringe events, which means that outside ticket and bar sales there is no ancillary income.
Both the festival and Basel Versicherungen, which is part of the Baloise Group, have been collaborating for the past 20 years.
Since 2013, the insurance company is the Presenting Sponsor of the Baloise Session, which saw Ms. Lauryn Hill, John Legend, Ben Harper, George Ezra, Jimmy Cliff, Sunrise Avenue and more take the stage at the most recent edition, Oct. 18–Nov. 8, 2018.

Speaking about the renewed sponsorship deal, Stirnimann said: “We are grateful that Basler Versicherungen, with whom we share a history that goes back more than 20 years, recognises the power and emotionality of music. A valuable commitment that gives us the freedom to add further melodious chapters to the 34-year history of the festival and deliver unforgettable concert experiences to visitors.”
Michael Müller, CEO of Basler Versicherungen Switzerland, added: “The Baloise Session is unique and brings fresh delights year after year. We are proud to be Presenting Sponsor for the seventh time and to contribute to musical diversity in Switzerland through our engagement. Music is good for you, reflects all the facets of life and brings people together.
