BBC Announces One-Time Festival Weekend

The BBC will make use of the gap left by Glastonbury in 2018 to host four festivals in four UK nations over four days, May 25-28.

Dubbed The Biggest Weekend, more than 175,000 tickets in total will be made available to the public.

The BBC promises to “bring the biggest artists in the world to all parts of the UK with live shows in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.”

All of BBC’s music stations will involved in broadcasting the weekend, a lot of them are engaging in lead-up activities, including “BBC Introducing gigs showcasing local talent in each host location.”

Bob Shennan, Director BBC Radio and Music, said “this is the biggest single music event ever attempted by the BBC. We will be celebrating the diversity of music from four different corners of the country, bringing the best UK music to the world and the best global music to the UK.”

There are no plans of turning The Biggest Weekend into an annual event, the company states.
