Banc of California Stadium Entertainment announced another high-profile hire on Monday, sharing that it had brought aboard Brian Smith as Event Director. Smith joins the Los Angeles venture after a six-year stint at SMG Worldwide.
“Brian’s impressive tenure with SMG Worldwide and history of conceptualizing and overseeing a wide range of arena-level events make him an excellent addition to the growing events team at Banc of California Stadium,” Otto Benedict, BOCS Senior Vice President, Facility Operations and General Manager, said in a statement. “The knowledge and expertise he brings to the team will enable us to provide the highest level of service and event execution for our customers, clients, and partners.”
Added Smith: “It’s an exciting time for Banc of California Stadium, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to continue my career in events with the new, and only, ‘outdoor arena.'”
Though it only opened in April of this year, BOCS has already become a major player in the Los Angeles events scene. The home of Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC, BOCS also hosted Epic Games’ Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am tournament, HBO’s Insecure Fest, three U.S. Open Cup games and more.
And it has already staged major music events, including the iHeart Radio Wango Tango in June and buzzy hip-hop festival Rolling Loud, which descended on the venue just this weekend. Iron Maiden announced in November that their extravagant Legacy of the Beast Tour will hit BOCS in Sept. 2019. [; ]
As BOCS’ programming has expanded, so has its staff. In May, Adam Friedman was named president of the newly created BOCS Entertainment and EVP of LAFC Sports.
“The stadium and team decided in light of the amount of anticipated volume in the event space to create a new division called Banc of California Stadium Entertainment, which will oversee three main event segments: concerts and music festivals; sporting exhibition; and corporate and private events,” Friedman told Pollstar at the time. “My role is to oversee the folks who run all three segments and build a model that’s robust and to fill the facility with events as many days as possible during the year.”
