Bruce Garfield Named Executive Director of Columbus Music Commission

Veteran artist manager and major-label executive Bruce Garfield, who has guided the careers of musicians including Grace Jones, Isaac Hayes, Sinead O’Connor, will next be sharing his expertise with the city of Columbus, Ohio, as the first Executive Director of the Columbus Music Commission. 

The Commission was formed in 2017 to build connections between the elements of Columbus’ music scene, increase educational and professional opportunities for musicians, attract audiences to live events and to support the city’s business infrastructure. 
There is always something going on in Columbus, thanks to the city’s growing music business and dozens of music venues and festivals, including five arenas and stadiums. The city can boast about home-grown talent such as Twenty One Pilots, O.A.R, Rascal Flatts, Saintseneca, Beartooth, Lydia Loveless and Caamp. Columbus 
Garfield has big plans for Columbus’ music scene in 2019. 
“This position presents the perfect opportunity for me to give back all the good the music business has given to me throughout my career,” said Garfield, who resides in downtown Columbus with his wife, Beth, and cat Pumpkin. “Commencing in April 2019, Music Columbus will begin hosting networking and educational events with Columbus’ music community and a diverse array of music industry leaders; our first will be the Music Business Mondays series.  2019 will also see the launch of a Columbus, Music Everywhere initiative.”
Garfield previously served as Capitol Record’s VP-Press and Artist Development, VP-A&R/Artist Acquisition and founding VP, A&R of EMI/Manhattan/Blue Note label Group, working with artists such as Bob Seger, Steve Miller, Iron Maiden, Duran Duran, and Natalie Cole. His management clients also included Dave Mason, WAR, Inner Circle, Will Downing, The Celts and Eileen Ivers.
