BTS have achieved a new Guinness World Record for most viewers for a music concert livestream with their June 14 “Bang Bang Con: The Live.”
756,000 fans from over 100 countries tuned in to the online performance live from Seoul, South Korea. Thus, the 100-minute stream, consisting of live performances of 12-songs, sketches and interludes, drew the equivalent of 15 stadiums’ worth of fans from all over the world making it the largest paid online music event in history, according to the group’s management company Big Hit Entertainment.
Fans could access the stream via WeVerse, a South Korean app and website. Tickets went on sale for $25. The concert was part of BTS’s 7th anniversary celebrations.
The South Korean boy group phenomenon currently holds multiple Guinness World Records titles including the first K-pop act to reach number one on the U.S. album chart, best selling album (South Korea) and most Twitter engagements.
BTS also hold the record for the fastest time to reach one million followers on TikTok.
The band’s incredibly loyal International fanbase, called the BTS Army, also set a record in March 2019 by tweeting #TwitterBestFandom 60,055,339 times. It earned them a Guinness World Records title for the most used hashtag in 24 hours.
The band’s record for most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours with “Boy With Luv” was recently equalled and surpassed by K-Pop girl band BLACKPINK.
