The “Field of Flags” art display on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., set up in advance of the 46th presidential inauguration, includes 200,000 flags. The display was set up by C3 Presents and the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Powerhouse promoter C3 Presents brought its services to the U.S. Capitol this week, creating an art display of 200,000 U.S. flags on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the 46th presidential inauguration.

C3 worked with the Presidential Inaugural Committee to design and produce the display, which represents the hundreds of thousands of Americans who wish to attend tomorrow’s inauguration ceremony in person, but for safety and logistical reasons, will be unable to do so.

“The Field of Flags, which covers the National Mall from 3rd Street to 14th Street, represents the American people who are unable to travel to Washington, D.C., and reflects Presidential Inaugural Committee’s commitment to an inclusive and safe event that everyone can enjoy from their home,” C3 Presents, which is a subsidiary of Live Nation, said in a statement.

The flags on display include the classic “Stars and Stripes” flag and others representing every U.S. state and territory, as well as 56 pillars of light

The “Field of Flags” display was a part of the Inaugural Committee’s larger “America United” events that will also include a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, a National Day of Service and a nationwide memorial to the more than 370,000 Americans who have died of COVID-19.

“This inauguration marks a new chapter for the American people — one of healing, of unifying, of coming together, of an America united,” Presidential Inaugural Committee CEO Dr. Tony Allen said in a statement. “It is time to turn the page on this era of division. The inaugural activities will reflect our shared values and serve as a reminder that we are stronger together than we are apart, just as our motto ‘e pluribus unum’ reminds us — out of many, one.”

This is not the first time C3 has been tapped to work on presidential inaugurations as the company also worked on President Barack Obama’s inaugurations in 2009 and 2013 as well as the White House Easter Egg Roll during Obama’s tenure. The company helped produce the HBO-televised “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration At The Lincoln Memorial” special and the inauguration ceremony on the National Mall in 2009, Ray Waddell previously wrote in Billboard. C3 also produced Obama’s election night rally in Chicago in 2009. The company’s relationship with the Obama campaign began when C3 produced outdoor rallies during Obama’s primary campaign.

C3 Presents entered a partnership with Live Nation in 2014 and promotes more than 1,700 concerts annually (in years not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic) as well as the Lollapalooza-branded festivals around the world and Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Company founder Charlie Jones announced last year he would be departing from C3 Presents to focus on a new venture called Four Leaf Productions. The “Three Charlies”  who founded C3 – Charles Attal, Charlie Jones and Charlie Walker – spoke on a panel at Pollstar Live! 2020.
