As a part of CAA’s continuing efforts to promote diversity and inclusion both within the agency and beyond, CAA has organized a virtual town hall meeting to take place today on the subject of ending systemic racism in the various areas of business which the company touches.
Participants at the event will include NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade, NBA commissioner Adam Silver, Black Lives Matter Co-Founder Patrisse Cullors, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund President and Director-Counsel Sherrilyn Iffil, and LinkedIn Executive Chairman Jeff Weiner, among many others.
CAA also expressed its commitment to diversity and inclusion with the creation of CAA Amp, a cultural strategy agency led by Dwyane Wade within CAA’s brand consulting division.
“This is the moment to turn words of support and belief into actions that create momentum, actions that become habits, and habits that become the change that is necessary.  It is up to all of us – no matter how well-intentioned we may have been in the past – to do the honest, sobering and essential work of dismantling systemic racism, including in our own organizations,” Richard Lovett, President of CAA, said in a statement.  “We are grateful to the presenters and guests joining today’s conversation, and hope the gathering plays even a small role in encouraging a more informed business community to become better partners and advocates for black colleagues, artists, and industry peers.”
CAA recently appointed co-head of basketball marketing and servicing Lisa Joseph Metelus to the CAA board, its new management structure which has been responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations since January.
The agency was one of many entertainment industry companies participating in the “Blackout Tuesday” or #theshowmustbepaused event to promote awareness and action after the death of George Floyd in Minnesota and the subsequent protests and social unrest. It also announced it plans on staging its fourth annual Amplify conference, which gathers leaders from entertainment, sports, media, brands, technology, and social justice around the theme of diversity.
