The invitation-only event included workshops and opportunities for 30 students to learn from the likes of Little Big Town; Universal Music CEO Mike Dungan; CAA Nashville co-founder John Huie; CEO of Tri-Star Entertainment Lou Taylor; IEBA executive director Pam Matthews;  various CAA agents including Sabrina Butera, Katie Germano, Lindsey Myers, Joe Harris, and Meredith Jones; and Barbara “Mother” Hubbard, for whom the event is named.

“At CAA, we have always believed that growing and developing the next generation of diverse leaders can only positively impact all workplaces,” Rob Light, Managing Partner and Head of CAA Music said. “We’re proud of the amazing doors THE HUBB conference has helped open for students in order to be successful in the music industry and beyond.”

Hubb Alumna Brook Baumgartner, who now works at Spotify, testified to the efficacy of the program in a statement, saying: “The Hubb expanded my knowledge of the music industry in a way that the classroom couldn’t and allowed me to hear firsthand all of the paths I can take as I navigate my journey as a music professional. My industry skillset and overall confidence skyrocketed following the conference, allowing me to share my unique experiences and insights with prospective employers during my job search.”

At the event a new $2,000 “The HUBB 2020 Summer Internship Scholarship Program” was announced in partnership with IEBA for three students.

The event takes its namesake from Barbara ‘Mother’ Hubbard, who over the years mentored many figures throughout the music industry. Hubbard continues to serve as the executive director of ACTS, which has provided opportunities for hundreds of U.S. students to get hands on experience throughout the performing arts.

Last year’s Hubb event saw participation from Dungan, CAA head of music Rob Light, Taylor, BMI songwriters/artists Cameron Bedell and Alex Hall and producer David Hodges, among others.
