Chance The Rapper Postpones ‘The Big Day’ Tour For His Family

Chance The Rapper has decided to err on the side of family and fatherhood and push his “The Big Day” tour into 2020 so the artist can spend that all-important early development time with his wife and newborn daughter, Chance posted to Facebook today (Sept. 9).

He’ll still perform an already sold-out hometown show at the United Center in Chicago Sept. 28 (though the second show the following night is postponed), according to promoter Madison House Presents, which adds: “We fully support Chance taking much needed time to be with  his family. We congratulate Chance, [wife] Kersten, [first daughter] Kensli and the whole Bennett family on the arrival of little Marli … and look forward to seeing him and the band on the road in 2020.”

The new dates will kick off Jan. 15 in San Diego and make stops in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto, New York and more, before wrapping Feb. 24 in Milwaukee, Wis. Ticket for the rescheduled dates are available for purchase now at Chance The Rapper’s website. Special guests will be announced soon.

“I thought it over for the past week and I’ve decided to push back my tour,” Chance posted. “This year has been one of the greatest of my life: Marriage, new baby, first album etc. But with it being so eventful it has also been very strenuous having to divide my time and energy between family and work.

“When Kensli was born, I went on tour two weeks later and missed some of the most important milestones in her life, but more importantly I was absent when her mother needed me the most,” Chance explains. … “I apologize because I know how many people were counting on seeing me soon, but I hope you’ll understand and forgive me in time.

”I love you guys AND LITERALLY CANT WAIT FOR U TO WITNESS THIS SHOW.”

Given availability at certain venues, the Ottawa, Newark, N.J.; Omaha, Neb.; Tulsa, Okla.; St. Louis, Mo.; and Saint Paul, Minn., dates will be rescheduled at a later date. Festival appearances including Life Is Beautiful, iHeartRadio Music Festival, and Miami Beach Pop Festival will play as scheduled, according to the announcement.

Fans who purchased tickets to all other 2019 dates should retain their tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled 2020 dates. For those unable to attend the new dates, refunds will be available at the point of purchase. Over the last three years, Chance The Rapper has averaged 11,046 tickets sold for a gross of $533,876.
