Dawes Among Record Store Day’s Black Friday In-Stores

The famed “Record Store Day,” where indie record stores offer up hundreds of new and limited edition titles each April, has its fall iteration this Black Friday, Nov. 24.

The event, which has been held by independent record stores for a decade at more than 1,200 local record stores, will include in-store performances, signings, film screenings, meet and greets and mor..

Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-DMC, for example is releasing a new four-track 12” vinyl release Back From The Dead and will make a have a signing appearance at Looney Tunes Records in Long Island Nov. 24 and two more signings the next day in New York and New Jersey.

Dawes and Perro Bravo are slated to do Nov. 25 in-store performances at part of Record Store Day’s Small Business Saturday at Long Beach, Calif.’s Fingerprints.

Richard Hell will do a signing at New York’s Generation Records Nov. 24 and Brooklyn’s Rough Trade Records Nov. 25.

J. Roddy Watson & The Business will have a meet-and-greet at Richmond, Va.’s Plan 9 Nov. 24.

“Besides Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story” will have a film screening at Grand Junction, Colo.’s Triple Play Records.

U2 is releasing a limited edition vinyl 12” of its song “The Blackout. The single will feature the album version of the song from the band’s forthcoming Dec. 1 release Songs of Experience.

Paul McCartney releases two 7” discs, one on red vinyl and one on green, both featuring a new version of his song “Wonderful Christmastime,” with the help of The Roots. The B-side of one of the vinyl records is The Decemberists’ cover of “Jesus Christ” and the other is of Norah Jones singing “Peace.”

Gorillaz will release its first album in seven years, Humanz, on double picture disc format. Snoop Dogg will release Neva Left on vinyl.

The Grateful Dead will release a five-LP box: The Grateful Dead Records Collection.

Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson release reissues of Spirit and Yesterday’s Wine for Nelson, and New Stuff for Jennings.  Eric Church’s Mistress Named Music will also make an appearance.

Jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler’s quarted will release its second album, Vibrations.

This will also be the first North American vinyl release of Neil Young’s Harvest Moon.
