Fenway Sports Group and Live Nation are looking into developing a 5,000-capacity performing arts center to be located on land adjacent to Boston’s Fenway Park, at the corner of Lansdowne and Ipswich streets.

Formal design plans and development timelines are in process for the venue, dubbed the “Fenway Theater,” with talks already underway with the city, its respective agencies and the community.
The announcement about the theater was made by Fenway Sports Group – the parent company of the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool Football Club, Fenway Sports management, and NESN – and Live Nation Sept. 28.
“The success of Fenway Park as a year-round venue has paved the way for this project, which will ensure the Lansdowne Street area remains a true entertainment district in Boston,” Fenway Sports Group Chairman Tom Werner said in a statement. “To have an intimate, indoor performing arts space for smaller-scale events will allow for a wider array of uses throughout the year. We are fortunate to be working with one of the most talented executives in the music and entertainment industry through our collaboration with Don Law and Live Nation. We are grateful for his passion and partnership.”
Crossroads and Live Nation New England president Don Law added, “For a decade and half, we’ve enjoyed a successful partnership with the leadership team at Fenway Sports Group, and we are pleased to now expand on that relationship through this new venture. We look forward to making the Fenway Theater an essential stop for artists planning tours in the Boston area.”
The theater will be owned by Fenway Sports Group and operated by a newly-formed joint venture called Fenway Music Company, a partnership between Fenway Sports Management and Crossroad Presents. In addition to booking, managing and operating the proposed venue, Fenway Music Company will do the same for House of Blues Boston.

Fenway Park’s 2018 calendar included performances from Zac Brown Band, Morgan Wallen, Luke Bryan, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joel, and Pearl Jam. The most recent report submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice for the baseball park was the sold-out Aug. 11 Journey / Def Leppard co-bill that sold 34,359 tickets and grossed more than $3.6 million.
