Foo Fighters Bring Out ‘The Van 2020 Tour’ To Revisit Cities From First Tour

Foo Fighter Van

Foo Fighters are loading up the van (at least figuratively) and taking it on the road to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary by visiting some of the towns where it all began in 1995.
Launching at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix April 12, Foo Fighters’ “The Van Tour 2020” hits 10 cities from its inaugural run. They probably won’t actually travel in the old Dodge van and the shows will be in arenas rather than the original clubs – many of which no longer exist.
But with stops in Albuquerque, N.M.; Oklahoma City, Wichita, Kansas; Knoxville, Tenn.; Green Bay Wisc.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Cincinnati and Cleveland, Ohio; and winding down May 5 in Hamilton, Ontario, fans can not only relieve their youth, but get a sneak preview excerpt of the Foos’ documentary, “What Drives Us” as the opening act.
“What Drives Us” is billed as founder Dave Grohl’s “deep dive into what possesses a particular tribe of human beings to leave behind jobs, families, relationships and semblance of sanity to climb into a busted ass Econoline and take their music to the people – or at least a dozen or so of them here and there.”
And it’s also a look at the toll taken by artists who travel from gig to gig in those “busted ass” vans, including interviews with van vets including members of Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Metallica and even The Beatles, among others.
